President Clinton Names Chair And Members Of The Advisory Committee To The President's Commission On Critical Infrastructure Protection

PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES CHAIR AND MEMBERS OF THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO THE PRESIDENT'S COMMISSION ON CRITICAL INFRASTRUCTURE PROTECTION

President Clinton announced his intent to appoint Jamie Gorelick to serve as Chair and Member of the Advisory Committee to the President's Commission on Critical Infrastructure Protection . He also announced his intent to appoint the following four members: Maurice Greenberg; Margaret Greene; Erle Nye; and Floyd Emerson Wicks, to serve as Members of the Advisory Committee to the President's Commission on Critical Infrastructure Protection.

Ms. Jamie S. Gorelick of Chevy Chase, Maryland, currently serves as Vice Chair of Fannie Mae. Ms. Gorelick previously served as Deputy Attorney General at the Department of Justice; in that capacity she was a member of the Steering Committee for the Commission. Ms. Gorelick was also General Counsel for the Department of Defense. Before joining the Clinton Administration, Ms. Gorelick was a partner with the Washington firm of Miller, Cassidy, Larocca & Lewin where she specialized in civil and criminal litigation. Ms. Gorelick holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School and is a graduate of the Radcliffe College of Harvard University.

Mr. Maurice R. Greenberg of New York, New York, currently serves as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of American International Group, Inc. Mr. Greenberg joined AIG in 1960 and was elected President of its American Home Assurance Company subsidiary in 1962. He is a past chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and is a current member of the Board of Directors of the New York Stock Exchange. He received his pre-law certificate from the University of Miami and an LL.B. from New York Law School.

Ms. Margaret H. Greene of Atlanta, Georgia, currently serves as Vice President and General Counsel of BellSouth Telecommunications, Inc. Ms. Greene is also on the Board of Directors at the U.S. Enrichment Corporation. Ms. Greene was Secretary of the Governor's Executive Cabinet for Governor Paul Patton of Kentucky from November 1995 to August 1996. Prior to her service in Kentucky, Ms. Greene had spent the previous twelve years with BellSouth Telecommunications. Ms. Greene currently serves on the Board of Directors of National City - Kentucky. Ms. Greene received both her B.A. and J.D. from the University of Nebraska.

Mr. Erle Nye of Dallas, Texas, currently serves as Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive of Texas Utilities Company. He also serves on the board of the Nuclear Energy Institute. Mr. Nye received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University and a J.D. from Southern Methodist University.

Mr. Floyd E. Wicks of Santa Barbara, California, currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Southern California Water Company. Southern California Water Company is the second largest investor-owned water utility in the state, and the fifth largest in the nation. Mr. Wicks is also the incoming President of the National Association of Water Companies. He received his B.S. in civil engineering and his M.S. in water resources engineering, both from Ohio State University.

The President's Commission on Critical Infrastructure was established to assess vulnerabilities and threats, both "cyber" and physical, to key U.S. infrastructures (energy, telecommunications, banking, transportation, etc.) and to develop a comprehensive national strategy for infrastructure assurance. The Advisory Committee, which is made up of business executives and other private-sector leaders with relevant expertise, will support the work of the Commission.
